I didn't mean to imply that the Bluebox only shifted 1 octave
down, my point was that those kind of circuts all, pretty much,
sound the same; they all want a monophonic, harmonic signal
with a strong fundamental and all you really get out is square
wave that's prone to octave-skipping and dynamic "weirdeness".

An electrified intrument signal is so rich, carrying so much
nuance, that to primitively 'square it up' is to throw away
the one thing that I'd want to exploit! 

At least that's what I think I meant!
