The best noise generator trans I've found are the 2SC828 and 2SC829.. the 
828 is used in some roland gear for noise.. I tried out quite a few 
different types a while back, found these were by far the best in terms of 
both amplitude and qualtiy of noise produced. Cant remember what others I 
tried out, but ones with low Veb I thiink may be the best..
