Re all this scratching.... What is a mellotron ?

I think it was les bradley himself, though I may be wrong- don?- who had the
thing dismantled for some reason. it could record on one or two keys (which
may or may not have been a different colour) from it's own output, so one
could assemble short phrases or chords for one-finger replay.
I don't know why this was perceived to be a bad thing, though- many users
either made or commissioned their own tapes sets for exactly this sort of
use. patrick moraz had lots of pre-recorded phrases in his 'tron during and
after his stint with yes, tangerine dream had effects racks made from their
own sounds and one of the ex-TD racks we bought had lumps of 1/4" in amongst
the "proper" 'tron tapes. you could even buy a 1/4" adaptor kit for the
things- we have one but it's more fun to get your own sounds built into a
set with a couple of the well-known sounds.
