Hello Peter, welcome back to the list.
I am sure there are several of us building the Paia 9700. The VCO
(as near as I can tell) is still yet to be released, although, I expect
it won't be much longer now. I have no complaints about the kits. I am
building the "stock" despite the fact that I do not like the 1/8"
jacks/plugs.
I don't know who or what else you have been looking at, but you will
probably want to look at Paul S. MOTM kits as well. Tom G. has a nice
set of bare PCB's that you can get for building basic modules as well (I
am sure both of them will post a link to their websites, since at the
moment, I don't have easy access to my list of links).
Front panel painting and lettering, well, there are as many ways to
do that as list members. I personally like to use the dry transfer
letter sets (which I think is what you were refering to in your message)
for one off panels. I generally put a movie on the laser disk player,
sit down on the couch and start. The last panel took me "Any which way
but loose", "Nightmare Before Christmas", and "Buckaroo Bonzai" to
finish.
