Well, since I wrote the quoted letter, several cheap and good midi-to-CV converters have come out. We have the Oakley and TomGs for instance. I just don't see a lot of market opportunity for what you propose. You're just too late.
I for one, have already gone with the Oakley and I'm glad I did. You really need a carefully layouted board for a mixed digital/analog circuit to work well.
