Scanning docs

The search engine at the Analog Heaven Archive web site
http://www.midiwall.com/archives/ah/
has two threads on this ( I searched for " best format gif jpeg "

GIF is best where you have large areas of one color ( white background of
schematics ) and very few other colors. JPG is good for reproducing
continuous tone images ( product photographs )

You know, I am just not sure. I think I will pose this question to the
list, and
maybe there will be somebody who could host them on the list.

To the list:

How 'bout it gang. Peter is scanning a bunch of documents primarily
from
acutronics, which include ap-notes and circuits. These documents are black
and white.
Both text and drawings. Which format would be best for posting on the
internet? And,
is there somebody with lots of extra webspace who could post them?
