Sync pulse to hex value

This is just a quick idea, there may be better solutions.
Basically you should be able to do the following:
Drive a counter from a separate clock (fixed) source (e.g.. 555).
Read the counter (=display value) when the 303 tempo pulse goes high.
Reset the counter after read. 
With the correct clock speed this should give you BPM readout.

BTW it will be easier and cheaper to use a small uC.
