toroid transformer Q

Thanks for all the replies.
I opened up the transformer box (which btw is about 9*12*3 cm and 
houses only the transformer) and it seems there may actually be a 
small air gap between the top mounting disc and the aluminum lid.
I'll put something between, just in case.
