I think it has something to do with a big drum sequencer that they made in 
their early days (I don't remember the model number).  The front panel looked 
like a big grid of switches and LED's and the patterns were programmed in 
similar fashion to the old Roland machines (606/808/707, etc.)  

The SDS-V was designed to connect directly to that sequencer, probably for 
playback only, though I'm not sure about that.  I saw Howard Jones use one in 
a live concert around 1984, but I didn't get a very close look at it.

The SDS-V sure sounds nice, doesn't it?
