You don't mention what you're trying to connect, so this may or may not be 
plausible in this instnace:  Replace the CV input jack on the gear you're 
trying to control.  Change it from a mono (TS) connector to a stereo (TRS) 
jack.  Find a voltage source inside the gear, and put 5V on the ring 
connection, and connect the input to the tip.

Now with a little creative rewiring on your volume pedal you can use a single 
TRS cable to supply the power and return the CV.
