I think the $100 would be better spent on a Paia MCV8 or one of Tony Allgood
or Tom G's MIDI to CV boards. The Synhouse MIDIjack only gives you a pitch
CV and gate, whereas all of the others provide multiple CV outputs (for pitch
bend, velocity, mod wheel, etc.). The Synhouse guy really lays the hyperbole
on pretty thick with his "the note has aleady been played before the next
MIDI message has even gotten through the cable!" I mean, who cares?? No
pitch bend, no velocity, no controllers... no expression!
If he upgrades his product to accommodate these absolutely necessary
functions, then he'll have something. Somehow, I doubt that he even
consulted with any musicians before he started designing. Doesn't he even
know about the Synth-DIY list? Maybe he considers his market to be those
less sophisticated than us? This would be a miscalculation, I think.
We should support the guys who respond to our needs and actually take an
active part in the DIY community: Tom G., Oakley, Paia, Wiard, MOTM, Blacet,
Chris Macdonald, etc.. All of these people are offering remarkably
high-quality stuff at very reasonable prices - and they're all long-standing
active community members.
