Static RAM to TB-303 memory chip replacement

I think it might be possible to get hold of a similar ram ic [ ? 5101 ]
that is 4 bit wide , and will power down ok [used as a ram on the early
pintables ].
but I think it would be better considering using an easier available
6116 ram , even though this is 8 bit , as you can either 
1 , just not use 4 of the data lines       or 
2   work out a method of switching between the two sets of four data
lines and increase the numbers of patterns you can store .
its worth trying to use more easily avaiable parts for your own project
,where these cab be used without much modification to the design .
