AFAIR, the 2nd version of Elektor Formant (the one with the Curtis chips)
was based on a similar idea... Except patches, everything was controlled
by a Z80 board...
BTW, I've been brainstorming a bit on this idea over the years (who hasn't ?)
and I don't think each module needs to have micro.
I think everything can be controlled from only one of today's fast uC,
and only 1 AD and 1 DA and a multiplexing + S&H system for VC
controls...
As for patches between modules, why bother with switches ?
I think the very sexy thing would be a 100% computer interface for
controlling the analog modular (similar to the Nord modular, except
that the electronics would be real analog, not DSP emulation).
Communication between computer & modules could be done via
RS232 interface, and (why not) through MIDI sysex for patch data...
May be someone is already marketing a similar thing...
