Hello, I was just checking the Atmel website, and I discovered an application note describing how to record to a serial EE2PROM using an AT908515. It uses the onboard 10 bit ADC of the MCU and uses PWM to output the sound (PWM also part of the MCU). Part count is quite low. It's app.note AVR335 JJ
