I have noticed that my old Weller soldering station makes a loud pop in my
speakers when it is turned off. It must be the falling magnetic field in the
inductor making an arc across the switch. I imagine any spark producing
device would have the same effect. How about taking a transformer out of an
oil burner and making your own Jacobs Ladder?
