If you take 4 cardiod capsules and mount them in each corner of a tetraed, it
is all of a sudden not very difficult to mix them together to get not only
the spheriod responce, but also the x, y and z axis 8 responces. This is
really what the Soundfield mike has been doing for a long time.

The tricky things for the Soundfield was the postprocessing stage, it consist
of a number of intricate processing... if you do it in Analog (and they did).
However, if you do it in digital or at least with digital control.
