There even was such a beast (not the Mellotron, it is well known), a real
analog sampler. It was used by Allan Parson Project and went under the name of
The Projectron in their instrument listing. Not much is known about this beast
as I know, but it was able to do stuff which back then was basically unheard
of. Then came the Fairligth and blew people away into orbit.
