Lightning

Saw a "fulgurite" specimen recently - this is a branching tube of fused
glass formed when lightning strikes sandy ground. The fellow that found
it had pieces about 8 cm in diameter, several 10's of cm's in
length. Black on the outside, and filled with green colored frothy glass
on the inside. He apparently found one piece that is about 1.3 metres in
length. These are quite solid and dense. Lots of energy to form these!
