Novice's CV/gate problem

Hi,

I'm new to this list and very much an electronics novice. I've built a few
kits (I can follow instructions) but I don't really know how they work on a
component level, so bear with me if my query is simple.

I have a Marlin Synthtone monosynth (it's a rebadged Jen SX-2000) It's cheap
and nasty and I want to rack mount it - all the controls are conveniently
mounted on a 2U wide metal panel below the keyboard, so I'll cut and drill
that panel and put the PCBs etc in a box behind it.

The keyboard is a very simple design, it has 3 wires coming from it - 2 go
to either end of a line of resistors (one per note) with spring switches
that touch onto a metal rail when the keys are depressed. The 3rd wire is
attached to this rail.

What is the simplest way to replace this mechanism with CV and Gate sockets?
I could rig something up but I want to be sure I'm not going to damage my
MIDI-CV box or the synth. Any suggestions or other mods would be most
appreciated.

Steve,
Manchester, UK.
