Also, look at the XYTronic soldering stations, which Jameco Electronics carries.
I've had mine for about three years now, and I'm still using the same tip.  I 
think my soldering station cost me about $130.  Worth every penny.  

It holds temperature within one degree, and the variable temperature is a 
godsend for large ground planes, 1/4" jacks, etc.  (Not to mention being able to
turn the temp way down for fine PCB work).  I can't believe I went all those 
years with those crappy Rat Shack soldering irons.
