IIIIIIII-I-I-I-I AM THE CHA-A-A-AM ~ PIONS....
OF THE WORLD!!!!!!!!
After repairing the board damage from the leaking backup battery, replacing
several circuit traces, rebuilding the RAM circuit, vigorously defluxing
all the boards, cleaning & de-oxing the five million ribbon connector
points, and painstakingly tracing the logic down to an intermittently
faulty memory decoder chip, I FINALLY have a working dw600.
I believe the turning point was finding out about the Italian curse --
believe me, we Sicilians take a back seat to no one when it comes to
handing out (and NEUTRALIZING) curses; didn't even have to resort to the
garlic mod (just needed to glare threateningly at the board and utter the
all-purpose Sicilian magic word........).
There IS one led on the controller board that's not functioning -- wonder
if I should open the beast up & see if I can get that to working
(don't laugh, there was a time in my life I would have done just that).
Thanks to everyone on the list who offered helpful (& goofy) suggestions;
and it was nice to hear that my sufferings in this regard were understood
by others.
