Source of many colored wire

I second the caution on solid wire.  While at school I used to junk-pick
bunches of the wire they use for telephone closets .  The stuff is great for
protoboards but if heated for soldering becomes brittle and then later
breaks when flexed (for instance when equipment is carried around).   Some
of it is silver-colored and doesn't even solder well.  Stick with stranded
wire for pot connections etc.
