Your favorite (cheap) 8 bit DAC?

Not that familliar with PIC, but for cheap DAC functions I like to do PWM.
If you have a spare counter things are real easy.
On a AVR you can get about 10 bit resolution with out much problem.
(some AVR counters have this function buildin, maybe PIC counters do too)
Pro's:
1)takes only one cpu pin,
2)low component count,
3)cheapo solution.
Con's:
1)limited resolution,
2)[often] eats a counter,
3)disign of the proper output voltage range is more work than with a DAC.
