Congratulations!  You are the first person to correctly use the word "blanch" 
on the Synth-DIY list.  (Unintentional vaguely-Asian-sounding misspellings of 
the word "branch", of course, do not count)  You don't win anything, but you 
do get bragging rights.

BTW, the "blob & wick" SMD solder technique is rather commonplace, and works 
great.
