I may get hosed for this one but I do not use ECG or other retail
replacement components. Also retail electronic supply houses charge far
too high a price for component sfor you to ever build anything at any
sort of reasonable price.

There is a place i deal with at work, Cumberland Electronics they give
great service and some things like telco and tools are fine but if you
buy less than 200 resistors you pay .22 cents each !  a .24 cent op amp
is $4.00.  When I need a component overnight I buy from another supplier
or I negotiate the price with these guys. 

The upside of dealing with these places are few except that you can have
them find you rare components and they will come up with them. I'm not
talking Curtis or ssm (see Paul Schrieber at Synthetech for that) but
things like series A 400 series CMOS, ain't cheap serei a 4001, 4049
$2.00 each but if you need them for a repair it works. 

There must be a parts faq that I don't know of, there is a lot to know.
