Enough replies on the sukking part itself I think.
So here are some related tips

1) When it doesn't matter if the part surfives desoldring cut off the legs
first.
This way you can even rip the 68000 from a mega ST without damaging the
board
(Atari tried hard to make the worst PCBs ever, seems they were quite succes
full).

2) If it does matter that the part surfives, but you don't give a
sexuallintercourse about the PCB,
heat the PCB whit a cigarette lighter.

3) (got this one from electuur I think) To desolder a SMD IC oi. SO package:
First; put some very thin wire under the IC, the wire should stik out on
both sides.
Second, solder one side of the wire to a nearby trace (say on the left
side).
Third, heat the right most pin, grab the wire and pull it so that the wire
slips bedween the PCB and the pin.
Repeat for all pins.
TAKE CARE with the last pin don't use the wire.

Hope this helps,

Cheers Theo
