Questions of ethics...
I produced the "PV-1" based on a Bob Moog design, with his permission. I
did modify the design, and the basic technique is not new. I have a similar
circuit in my 360 sys slavedriver, and made an ultrasonic rangefinder based
on the same principle...
Bob Moog published his schematic in the Etherwave Manual. I didn't get it
from the web..
but who cares. I asked his permission (though I am not legally required to
do so) because it is the right thing to do. I'm assimilating (hehheh) a
known proven circuit to base my work on... so even though its now "mine"...
I owe a debt of gratitude to the original designer. (thanks.. Bob!)
Bob Moog gave permission with the stipulation that I identify the "source
of the circuit" and that I have "uesd it with permission". He didn't ask
for any Royalties (which of course he wouldn't get as the project will lose
money for sure...). I'm sure he understood it would lose money, and thats
why he didn't produce it himself...
We have here a blueprint for one ethical transfer of technology. There are
others. Like the JH/MOTM agreement. as JH put it... "if I wanted money I'd
have a real job (stock market etc...)"
So I think we need to remember that none of OUR circuits exist in a
vaccuum, they are based on those who came before (e-notes etc...) so we
should stay humble... and not take things that aren't ours and deny the
original designer the credit... becuase credit is all the compensation they
will ever get (well maybe a cup of coffee too...).
I did check out the Doepfer site last night... I'm still shocked. Maybe an
apology to this list might be ethical... I'd like to see something like "no
legal action (hah) in return for the acknowledgement that "Mr XXX or Site
XXX provided inspiration for the design"
