Without going into specific cases, I'd like to remind people that
anyone who has the ability & persistence to get DIY synth stuff
designed could make much better money doing other stuff.
Nobody will ever get rich buoilding analog synth stuff, for God's sake.
People come to the list, peolpe leave the list. I think the list will
go on. Some would be missed more than others, I guess.
Personally, looking at all the analog ckts I've acumulated, I gotta say
there isn't a lot that are ABSOLUTELY original. And, for a production
item, most work is in the tweaks to make sure it works with standard
items withnormal variations.
Why do people give advice or post circuits? Because, despite the
current official ideology that 'competition is all', most people have
a desire to share & cooperate. As one remembers from grade school, some
are more inclined this way than others.
Things are naturally different in fields wher REAL$$$$ are involved.
A phychophysics friend tells me that thereis very little work done on
reverberation algorithms in academia, because a good one is so valuable
that the big companies are miles ahead of the open literature. But,
anyone trying to make a $ from analog synth manufacture will soon see the
most important aspects are sourcing boxes, components, reliability
questions. Roland dont make analog anymore because their managers are
smart enough to know it isn't profitable.
Personally, I think the more people making synths, whether for themselves
or others, the better. And I'm sure that most analog designers won't
stop teling everybody else the best way to do it. Even if you put their
head in a bucket of wet cement.
