What the heck is this?

I've just pulled a device out of a dead Technics keyboard. It connects
the + battery supply to the main + DC inlet. The - battery supply is the
usual switched at the power socket type. The device is a transistor
(TO-92 style) plastic package case, but has only two pins. It has the
markings N75 J. My guess it was a diode, which makes sense, but the PCB
had no legend to indicate direction of the placement. All the other
diodes on the PCB were the usual DO types. The PCB legend did have the
letters IPS by the component's holes. So what is it? Any ideas.
