Sorry for my short reply. I just saw another often coverd thread coming
up again, but I didn't get the whole scope. Saw the interesting mails about
limiting diodes in various variations of the MS-20 filter only after I'd
replied.
As for the reason why it's in the *data book* like this, I guess it's a very
simple reason: Reuse of old circuits with diode-less OTAs for the general
applications, and only a few circuits which show the features of the
linearizing diodes of the then new 13700. I think in one or two cases
they even show a diode-less and a linearized version. Which reads as
"similar procedure for the other circuits" if you're asking me. Which makes
sense in general applications. But for music circuits, be it VCA or VCF,
considering the "simple" diode-less version is always wort a thought.
Which brings us back to where I hasted to in two unfinished sentences -
