A power spike, most likely. I have a Prophet-5 that got hit by a power
surge during a storm; it took out the -5V reg., a filter cap, 3 3340s, a
3310 and about 5 CA3280s. I had to use up most of the 3340 spares I had
for the Voyetra-8's, and was lucky that we still had tubes of unused 3280s
at work.
The power supply in a Prophet-5 is malnourished as it is. I added an
EMI/RFI filter and a pair of varistors for trapping spikes. Hopefully the
machine will stay alive for another 10 years.
