I just completed a Minimoog VCF clone. It is silky smooth, compared to my Korg-35 VCF clone.
I matched all transistors and capacitors in the Moog ladder. And used BC550C, which I suppose are less noisy than the ones Moog used (TIS97). Maybe that's why it sounds so clean.
