MIDI to CV converter PICs

Hi All,

Quite a while back I produced a PIC microcontroller firmware which allowed a
simple MIDI to CV converter to be constructed using a handful of components,
including the pre-programmed PIC, a DAC and a few other parts. This design,
called the rx303, was originally intended for TB303 clones. My schematic
design and PIC firmware may be downloaded from my website and used for
non-commercial purposes. This is an ideal design for newcomers to DIY synth
building as it is very easy to build. Even a suitable PIC programmer can be
built in a couple of hours at the most. Or to make things really simple, a
pre-programmed PIC may be obtained from myself.

I'm putting this remider here because there are probably a number of new
list members who are unaware of this project, and some of you have shown an
interest since Tom G anounced the new BassAce TB303 clone project, which
incorporates the rx303 design and a variation of the firmware.

In the meantime, if any synth kit (or otherwise) manufacturers out there are
interested in MIDI-fying their designs for a relatively low cost, please get
in touch with me. That's what Tony Allgood did - see the Oakley Sound
System's midiDAC design. This MIDI to CV converter uses an advanced piece of
firmware written by myself to provide eight CV's and a range of other
features all from an inexpensive 16F84-10 PIC microcontroller. I am thinking
about making a similar piece of firmware available to other manufacturers -
if you're interested in this, please get in touch off-list.

Basically the purpose of this email is so that I can gather information on
what kind of designs people want, as I am thinking of making a new range of
software variants available.

Many thanks and best regards,

Trevor.
