Well I admit, my taste is not classy.
Type "wood" of  choice for synth stuf : Multiplex

And if mony can buy: Oak and "beuken"
{tree produces typical small 'triangle' shaped nuts, kids like them}.
Usualy get those two from old furnature. :-)

Then o'cause there is: bark, elm, pine, easter, larch and cypress, all
highly recomended for the fireplace.
Un trimmed elm is also recommeded for wooden shoes.

Last but not least: marple (favorite kind: Arser palamatum) makes great
bonsai.
