There are a number of different types of 1024x4 SRAM, some of which are CMOS
and some not - I've replaced one of these before and also used a non-CMOS
version.
That drained the backup battery overnight too.
I checked the data on the chip I had bought in the Maplin catalogue, and
sure enough, idle current was a couple of milliamps.
