suggestions?

hi guys. sorry this isn't exactly *diy* but im looking to start building a 
large modular with kits or used modules.. i know some of you might think 
this is stupid but i really want quantity rather than quality. i dont care 
to much about rock solid stability or whatever im just looking to make very 
strange complicated sounds.. and heres the problem i only have 500$ to spend 
now, so what should i look for?
any input would be great.thanks a lot
