My collegues here, at the university design analogue VLSI chips
and I asked them about the possibilities to make a super-CEM like
chip, containing many transistor arrays, ladders, OTAs, OPAs, free
current sources, mirrors etc, to be a basis for building many different
synth structures by different connections between various parts of
the chip and external capacitors and resistors.
To my surprise they answered this is feasible and the final cost of the
chip would not be very high assuming a reasonable run. The problem is
VLSI technology does not offer high quality necessary for audio
signals. The SNR ratings, signal crosstalk are poor.
