As for which filter to build, as being the "best" is a matter of taste.
Normal filters are lowpass, then there is this 12dB/oct contra 24dB/oct issue.
Then there is this issue about what form of filtercore you would like to have
and, and, ...

There are thus virtually zillions of ways of doing this. And there are also
a lot of diffrent ways to get into trouble. Like hard-to-get components etc.
