Today at work I was able to use a little "synth" stuff on the job.
I needed a notch filter (tunalble) in a Servo Controller I designed
(uses a DSP). Rather than do the work, I whipped out my copy of Musical
Applications of Microprocessors by Hal Chamberlain, turned to the
chapter on digital filters, located the BASIC code for the state
variable filter, translated in into 56002 assembly (about 14 lines), and
there I had it, a notch filter. Who says we are just waisting our time
do this stuff.
