The 4136 was used in a lot of audio/synth/effects circuits in the
past but has been pretty much superceded by the newer chips. I hate
the non-standard pinout problem as it makes substitution a real pain.
Fortunately it's still available--for the moment. I suggest stocking
up.
Also worth mentioning is the 4739 which was sort-of the dual
companion to the 4136 (superior in the noise dept.?). It's used all
throughout Craig Anderton's stuff (still available from PAiA). It's
also out of production and pretty much long gone. I have one left.
Oddball pinout once again, this time a 14 pin DIP for a dual opamp.
PAiA has an adapter board for substituting a 5532.
I used to see these constantly. It's amazing how time flies.
