Hi all,
As one who has put a few circuits up on the web, I do not worry about
others from taking my designs and using them for their own purposes. If
I did, I wouldn't have put them up there. You cannot copyright your
design, only the drawing.
We must realise that people will take and use our ideas, and after all,
isn't that what we want. Yes, some people will take and not say thank
you, but that is the way of life. Many sites have claims that people
should/can not use their designs commercially, but this can only be a
request not a right. Software is a different issue entirely, and how
many of us have used at one time a piece of unbought software.
I don't think Doepfer is wrong to take the idea from Juergen, if indeed
he has. I am often inspired by Juergen's designs, my latest OB-Sx module
was given a aftertouch makeover after seeing Juergen's JH720. And the
single pot that does two things depending on which side of centre it is,
was another JH inspiration. I do not consider this stealing, or morally
wrong. It is sharing ideas. If you want your idea to be a secret, then
don't tell anyone.
Having said that, a thank you is always a nice thing to hear.
Regards,
