Why yes, I've heard of this eg. leaving near dead batteries in an
effect to make it dirty/nasty.  Hmmm.  Perhaps a big wire wound
rheostat in series with v+ on a device powered by one supply, or
converting a constant V regulator to a wide range variable one??
