Sorry, off topic, but I know the DAT gurus are on the
list. Please reply privately to jhaible at debitel.net
I want to replace the portable Aiwa DAT which I've been using
in the studio. Now I've seen there are some affordable
"professional" models, 19" rackmount and copy bit switchable.
I'm particularly interested in Sony PCM R-300 or
Tascam DA20 Mk II.
Are they good, are there any flaws, and does the switchable
copy bit free me from the usual problems with multiple
generation recordings ?
I'm mastering on a Phillips CD-R, and these are infamous for
being very picky with copy bits (the usual copy bit killers
don't work on them, because they also check the "2nd" bit
which counts generations, even if the "1st" bit is not set.
Or so I was told.
Now the question is: Can I record from any (1st or 2nd generation)
digital source with such a "professional" DAT recorder, and then
use make a digital copy from the DAT to the Philips CD-R ??
Any helpful hints are welcome.
Thanks,
JH.
