:::same. I doesn't have to power a 100-watt amplifier or anything, just
:::a few handfulls of preamp tubes. Even the heaters aren't a huge

That's true, but I found that transformers with that voltage ratio,
or filament heater windings are hard to get these days (at least where
I live), and also good tube sockets. Especially output transformers
for power amps. And the overall power consumption can't get under the
heating power, which is a lot. So, battery portable applications are
quite difficult to do with tubes, but they existed in the past, when no
one heard of transistors.
Don't get me wrong: I also have tube equipment. I would also very much like
to build a little tube guitar amp, time ....
