OK so I visited the Metasonix site again...
The "ice test" on the tubes is a bunch of Bvhhsh!t. THINK folks... they
put hot (and cold) liquids... even liquid NITROGEN... in VACUUM
bottles....
Why... Because a VACUUM is a very poor conductor of heat... it has
excellent thermal isolation properties... So you can freeze the the
outside envelope of the tube and not change the internal temperature ONE
BIT (oops I said bit... but thats not digital in this case is it...).
Spray the components at the base of the tube... watch the fun begin...
Any whay is there a special midi to CV converter... How's the LINEARITY
spec of the VCO... Its not "1 volt per octave" is it... more like
"whatever voltage it takes to be a C#"
I went back to Metasonix to make sure I haven't missed anything... If
you want to make a synth with tubes that's great... and if it has a
unique sound that's great too... The tone of the "tubes" might be great.
The (arrogant) tone of the site left me er.... cold.
(Quote may not be exact...) Bob Pease wrote that we as engineers have a
duty to tell things like it is (he was referring to the boutique speaker
cables). Are tube VCO's superior to solid state VCO's... maybe if
overall frequency range, linearity, choice of multiple waveshapes aren't
important to you.
I'm putting on my "vacuum insulated suit" for the flames this might
ignite... or will it be some "freeze mist" bvllsh!t instead. Analog
Truth my GYMSHORTS !!!
Harry (so i'm ignoramt and probably tone deaf too... so what) Bissell
PS: Bob Pease said in his latest column that he preferred the elegant
speaker cable design of paralleling every other wire in a ribbon cable
(to reduce the inductance to virtually nil) to using "zip cord"... Of
course He did add that he was unable to HEAR any difference...
:^)
