Cal,

For you sake I hope Eric is not reading this..
check out his webpage, his tubes synth is more stable
than ANY transistor synth Ive ever seen, like the man says
squirt air spray onto your matched pair until they are covered
in frost and watch the vco drift like mad, probably even stop..
Then do the same with a tube VCO, it only drifts a fraction
of the frequency...
This is the web page that shows this experiment...

http://www.metasonix.com/freeze.htm

For preoving this could be done and makeing it succesful
I take my hat of to eric, he IS a nice guy and indeed a genius
with tubes, Im building one of his tube preamp circuits, and then
a power amp, this will replace my solidstate hifi..

His webpage is here ;-

The only problem with using tubes in a synth is the highvoltage
that is required, if you can handle 500Vdc then there is nothing
to stop you going for it! I would if I had the parts/time.

  Paul

Gur,

Other than using them to make tube pre-amps or similar effectors, they are
not practical for synth use. Synth circuits need to be exceptionally
stable, and repeatable, and most need to have response down to DC.
Most tube circuits must be AC-coupled to hold back the high voltage power
supply biasing.
