I've forgotten to mention that some circuits don't care about overdrive in
terms of DC, but may need a large recovery time in case of AC overdrive.
Of course, especially  nonlinear circuits like exp/log und such could
suffer from this.

I think the circuit should behave in a way that is predictable without
looking into the schemo -intuitive right-, otherwise one could be really 
in a mess having a strange problem in a larger patch.
