Alesis Midifex: MIDI specs?

Hi,
    Anyone know what the Alesis Midifex unit can do under midi control? It
has midi input at the rear, but I have no idea what sort of messages it
responds to. I assume you can select the effect type via midi, but can it
do anything else, such as sync to midi real-time messages?

    Any help much appreciated... cheers, Trev
