Michael, this is brilliant!!
I wouldn't use a pot for the rotation, I'd use an optical system (light slit
arrangement) so you dont have to spin around too far.
Just putting the rotating base into a matching cutout in a square larger block
should suffice. Lok at microwave oven rotator bases for inspiration.
