A cheap and dirty way to make a ribbon from easy to find materials is to squeeze a long line of super glue corperation quick gel (dries slower) onto a board. Mix in a generous amount of graphite powder (lock lubricant). Use an unwound electric guitar string for the wiper and thats it.
